Personal Expenses Worksheet
Posted 23 Apr 2012
Unfortunately I am being audited and have managed to get a postponement till after tax season. Along with the description of what is to be available for the audit, I received a "Personal Expenditures Worksheet" requesting personal expenditure information. Topics include expenditures for clothing cost ( for 4 year old or more), inter city travel(including air travel), pet expenses, cleaning supplies, hair cutting/washing/styling, tobacco and alcohol use, religious or charitable organizations, lottery tickets. NONE of these expenditures appear on my personal T1 self employed income tax return. Why am I being asked to provide what I consider private information?
I have seen these request for clients who owe CRA money and say they cannot pay. I have not yet been asked to pay anything as a result of this audit, and have always paid any taxes owing on request.
Should I be contacting the Privacy Commissioner?
