I'm getting the same error. And Profile logic on the letter forms functions erratically. Sometimes the "if" statement works, and sometimes it does not. The ClientBirthDate field will not print sometimes, and other times it will. Using a formula on the client letter and using the identical formula pasted onto the joint client letter template gives different results when displayed. I believe it is a program error that may be related to the faulty installation of that TGP....BuildFieldList error message. I plan to call tech support Monday morning. Try the formula {if Line113 = 0 and ClientBirthDate <= 17137}You have not reported OAS income although you were 65 or older by November 30, 2011.{endif}

Waited on hold for 20 minutes and then told it is a known issue and will be fixed in the next release.....next week sometime. Ouch!

I was on hold for the same problem. My first invoice was perfect ... second one not so perfect ... and it changed every time I called it up. While on hold I read this posting but they responded before I hung up. Same thing. Try again on next update. Maybe Friday. Swell.

I have reported the issue to our Product Development (PD) Team for investigation and fixing. This will be fixed in a future release of ProFile most probably next release version 2011.3.0.

This problem appeared to be fixed however, amounts are showing up on the invoice...but not calculated in the total.

I don't know what to do!

You are right. The only problem that was fixed was the tool to insert fields. The LOGIC in Profile TEMPLATES is definitely broken. Fields can have multiple names, like {ClientBirthDate} or if you use the copy field code, you get {T1[5]} for client birth date. If you use either of these fields in a letter, sometimes logic testing it works with one or the other, and then it no longer works. This is a VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM, since proper client communication depends on the template logic working every time. And I can't depend on any of the logic if some of it does not work. An expert from Profile support was supposed to call me back this past week, but no one did. If this is not fixed fast, I will be making a painful change in software vendors!

Since it was not fixed in 2011.3.0 when will it be fixed? We are getting into the time when we need the invoice to work to avoid manual invoice production and tracking.

I just waited 20 minutes for someone to tell me it will be fixed in the next update.....no time frame for the update!
Does anyone have a solution other than preparing invoices another program?

I stopped using the invoice within Profile about three years ago.

Now each invoice is customized to the client, much like the letter. And the price is too.

You could use QuickBooks for invoicing your Profile clients if you set up Profile to upload billing information into QuickBooks. I think all you have to do is have your QB file open and then right click on a Profile billing form for "Create invoice in QuickBooks" option.

Thanks Gord, but I don't use Quickbooks. I will be preparing over 800 tax returns so invoicing in a different software is going to make extra work. I really think for the money I've paid for the software....I shouldn't have to do that. This year there have been so many hours wasted trying to get the software working properly. I've been a Profile client since 1997 and I've about had it!

Well, I figured out the problem with templates. I have clearly demonstrated it to support so now it is up to Profile developers to fix the bug fast! It only seems to happen when you open the joint template, so a workaround for me is to make sure the joint letter is not opened in the client`s file when the client has no spouse. Once you open a joint template, you have to close Profile and reopen it so that the misassigned variables get correctly reassigned and the logic works again. Just using the client invoice might work for you, too, but it may not be practical for you to create two separate invoices for clients whose returns are coupled.

Thanks for the comments Cameron, we are having the same / similar problem printing a T1 one for a single person. Even though the Field Code is in Blue it will not show up or print on the document. We are using Version 2011.3.1. We tried phoning technical support and the Support Representative put me on hold a number of times to talk to a Senior Programmer representative, when I explained that the field code was blue {valid} and not red {invalid} and this was the same template as we used last year and it was a client we had done last year, she put me on hold and never came back, eventually the line went dead.

I tried then sending an email and received the following reply " ProFile Product Support - Attention Customers: This service is temporarily unavailable. We are here to help you with your ProFile sales and support needs at 1-800-452-9970. We apologize for any inconvenience."

To fix this client, I personalized the document to enter the client name but that is not a good long term solution.

Jim, it does not matter if the field is valid when you save the template. The variable value is destroyed somehow when a joint template is simply displayed on screen or if the client file was previously saved while a joint template had been displayed. Try closing any joint form that is open in the client file, saving the client file, closing Profile, restarting Profile and reopening the client file. The reassignment of the variable when you reopen Profile should fix the problem until you again display a joint letter or similar form.

I reported the error of Client names not printing in our templates on Thursday and received a response the following day saying a new version was available. I have now downloaded and installed 2011.3.2. I'm not sure what it fixes, but it did not fix our template problem, so I'm not certain why that was the reply to my reporting of it.

The latest version 2011.3.2 didn't fix any of our template problems - the name in the letter, the amounts in the invoice, etc. The scary thing is that you can open a doc several times and get different results! I even had one Engagement letter that showed the spouse's name on it. This is all for templates where we copy our last yr's customized one, rename it for this year and check that none of the fields show in red. What more can we do but beg?

Profile has changed the field codes for many items. Even though the old codes don't appear red in you template, they are, at best, unstable. What I did was, check the letters and invoices carefully each time and changed to the new field code where ever we seemed to be having problems. Now my templates seem to be stable.

The newest version appears to deal primarily with Ontario returns and the Trillium Benefit.....
