I think I will need to convert Taxprep datafiles. If all goes right, I will have to file T2s going back several years from a number of companies.

The 2006 T2 will be prepared in Taxprep.

I will have to carryforward that file to 2007 Profile, then onward to 2011..so 4 years of returns per company.

There is scant documentation on the subject.

so my questions

1) when I carryforward the Taxprep 2006 T2 file, will it automatically open Profile T2 2007, or will something else happen??

2) anything I need to be aware of??

3) I use "Basic"...does this complicate things??

I actually posted this here after learning where and how this could be done, but I was actually hoping to snare an Intuit person's response to these specific items..

I've been using Profile for (jeepers I see I joined in Dec of 01) years now, and I've not converted any file for a decade or so..and certainly not one from a prior year...so I've no clue what to expect.

Intuit, are you out there??

My understanding based on your query is that you would like to:
Carry forward a TaxPrep 2006 T2 return for preparing a 2007 year-end T2 return using ProFile and then carry on up with ProFile for preparing later year-ends T2 returns using ProFile software as well.

Answers to your questions are:

Yes, carryforward of a 2006 year-end TaxPrep T2 return will open a 2007 year-end T2 return in ProFile provided there are no unforeseen problems.

ProFile T2 Basic has certain limitations. To view details please click on the link below:

My suggestion is that you email a copy of the 2006 TaxPrep file to pas_support@intuit.com to the attention of Hardev for testing.

Thank you.

Thank you for your response Hardev..

What I'll do is try one myself when I get them in a few days. If I have any issues, I will email you directly, and we'll go from there.

No issues to report. It was pretty painless to get them to open into the right year.

Did as cursory check to make sure the necessary data and comparatives made it in and it does appear they did...but cannot be certain until assignment progresses.

Will report back later...

OK, so the conversion is not perfect, but quite acceptable, at least for what I have done so far. Primary issues in CF on the GIFI in the RE section. But easily fixed if you have the original data.

Unless I see more issues, I'm happy with things as they stand
