I have noticed that this year the CRA have been sending me more notices than usual to prove claims. I always abide by the rules and it is sometimes more effort to reply than it was to do the tax return in the first place. Therefore the CRA is making me think twice about efiling when a paper return would solve the problem. The CRA always pushed for everyone to efile but they are making it more troublesome. Is anyone else out there thinking the same? Also when replying how much information do you supply above what is required. They seem to be questioning union dues other than on slips and tuition transfers. Just wondering.

I don't supply anything other than what they request (according to the code listed on the request letter). Every year I suspect I'm getting more than the year before but it's just because they all seem to come in a couple weeks and then in dribs and drabs. Tuitiion transfers are notorious for being messed up (no signatures, child hasn't filed a tax return, etc). Union dues are a problem because they might show up on the T4 but many union halls also give out a separate receipt to the employee.

The processing review letters are a PITA but overall it's still a savings from paper-filing. Having said that, each year I get a few returns that I just paper file to avoid processing review.

Thanks Dunner, I feel better now that I am not alone with this issue. You spelled it out perfectly. I guess mail returns that are possibly suspect. Apparently computer programs at the CRA spit out certain files that do not conform to norm.

High your experince is realy Strange. Here it is Aug 5 & I have not received any pre or post assessment reviews at all. Nor have I been asked to provide copies of signed T183's or T1013s

Congratulations

The review rate does depend on your work and the claims your clients make. Some forms of claims tend to appear later in the cycle.

Is it possible you have the post-assessment reviews set to be mailed to the client?
