Has anyone encountered this. The Ontario child activity credit is different from the federal as it allows the arts and not just fitness but I can not enter a different amount for the provincial that the federal. Is this a bug that will be repaired?

I've done a few of these without problem (version 2010.4.0). The amount you enter in the Federal credit box automatically pops up in the Ontario box but you can enter any number (up to the max) in the Ontario box to account for additional expenses.

I haven't had any problems with this either.... Are you making the entries on the Dependent screen? Also, remember the max hasn't changed.

Hi Carole,

As Dunner points out, what you enter for eligible fitness expenses for your child will also populate the Children's Activity expenses for Ontario purposes, as anything that qualifies for federal purposes should qualify for Ontario purposes as well. We implemented that functionality so the preparer did not have to enter the same amount twice.

There are certain activities that only qualify for Ontario purposes. Accordingly, we allow you to enter an amount on the Ontario line that exceeds the federal amount.

If you try entering an Ontario amount that is less than the federal amount, we will reset the federal amount down to what you entered for Ontario purposes, since there should not be a situation where what is eligible for federal purposes exceeds what is eligible for Ontario purposes.

I hope this helps!

Peter

I am able to enter the amount for the Federal fitness amount, but Turbo tax is not putting that amount on ON479, line 6309. I can't enter it in the Dependent screen either. I'd have to override line 6309 if I want to enter the amount, but if I do that then I can't use netfile. Any suggestions?
