I have a 2003 version of QB pro and am happy to upgrade to the latest version if anybody could tell me whether it could do the following:-

I need to be able to print out a P&L Account by both expenses category(ie postage, phone, repairs etc) and also by project (so for project A,would have: post, stationery, repairs etc then a sub-total of the projects expenses, then the same again for the remaining projects.

If I set the projects up as "Classes" I can acheive this however it does not look like I can get a detailed budget report by class. It will only give me a total budget for each class not a budget for each expense within a class.

I hope that this makes sense.

I will appreaciate any help in this area even if it is to direct me to another package

thanks

Quickbooks 2003 can do what you need, as well as the newer QB versions. Seems like you are not terribly conversant with QB though.... By the way, unless these projects have a certain amount of permanancy, I would use 'jobs' instead....

By the way, you will find the Quicbooks forum here:

Hi Burt

Thanks for replying

If I were to use jobs so for eg Project A is one job which has 20 different expenses headings within it, could I allocate budgets to each expense account within each job and then run a report that showed actual v budget for each expense account?

The name is Bert, not ...BURT

yes, you could accomplish that, given you have the requisite accounting knowledge, including the attention to detail you seem to be lacking....

Hi Bert
Sorry for spelling your name incorrectly

But it feels like my "lack of attention to detail" has been more than matched by your lack of politeness - maybe its a cultural thing!
