I recently received a letter from CRA questioning the amount of tax paid on line 437 of my 2008 return. To see how this number had been arrived at I checked through the numbers reported from my "T" forms. When I came to the T4A(P) it showed that I entered the Taxable Benefit (line 20) and tax deducted (line 22) correctly in one column, but for some unfathomable reason, the amount of the Taxable Benefit was entered again in another column, incorrectly, on line 22, that is to say, as Tax deducted.
Obviously this grossly overstated the amount of tax deducted on my return. What I cannot understand is why the software did not question why I was claiming more in tax deducted than received in CPP benefit. It asked me to check several other matters, but not this glaringly obvious error.

entering things in wrong places will always get you into trouble
for example, you are probably speaking about quicktax software, but you have entered this in the forum for completely different software, used by completely different users - this is also "glaringly obvious"
