I recently explored alternative tax prep software due to the problems with not being able to email tax returns to clients using Basic Profile. Dr. Tax stood up t the plate and offered me a single user license for $449.00 that does basically what Profile does for over 800 dollars. The only flaw in the oitment is converting my previous Profiles to Dr. Tax. The Dr.Tax program does not come with a facility for in house conversion of files. You must apparently upload all your files to Dr. Tax and they will convert the files to Dr. Tax.
For me this raises intense privacy issues in handing over all my files to a software vendor. Privacy legislation requires that I get permission from each client before letting these files leave my office. Something I am not interested in doing: getting permission and letting the files leave my office.
Anybody echo these privacy concerns?

That is one of the main reasons Dr Tax will never really be a competitor for Profile or TaxPrep.
TaxPrep had the same issue when I was researching a possible change a few years ago. I think they have addressed the problem now.
No direct in program conversion of individual files makes a change basically impossible or at the very least improbable

Obviously Dr. Tax is having a bad year. Its like pulling teeth to get a refund for software that is just not workable for me. The supervisor basically said they have a no return policy and that I was informed of that and the conversion process before I purchased. Neither bit of information was provided prior to purchase. Luckily I paid by MasterCard, and I have Ellen Roseman of the Toronto Star on speed dial. I suggested that The Privacy Commissioner of Ontario might be interested in thousands of tax files being uploaded on the internet.

We reported this method of converting files for Dr Tax a couple of years ago on this forum. Guess nothing has changed. I'll stick with Profile for now!
Just been informed by the Sales Director of Dr. Tax that will refund 80 percent of my purchase price! Guess thye are having a truly bad season and need to nickle and dime where they can.
