Hi everyone,
I am in trouble :o I have to do 3 years of income tax and hope I don't owe money. I have used quick tax in the past and liked filing online but I want to use the CD this time (don't have unlimited internet time). I still hope I can pull out my data for 2005 and 2004 even though I have used the online one until now.
But the big question is which products should I buy and need? I want to start doing 2006 and 2007 and I want to use the CD only. So is it possible to find and use Quicktax standard CD 2006 or 2007 for both years (2006 and 2007)?
I don't care that it doesn't give that many years on the same CD I just need which ones I need to use so that I can have everything done. My problem is not the money I'll spend on the CD but to correct my situation and be up to date and I don't want to buy the wrong CD.
Please help!
Mira

Intuit still offers Quicktax (CD versions) for tax years 2007 and 2006. Every year's software version is always sold on a seperate CD.
http://quicktax.intu.../prior-year.jsp
For 2005...ebay? And you would want to make sure it can be activated. Also, you cannot Netfile for past years, so you would need to print the returns and mail them in. I don't think you'll be able to access your old 2005 return if it was done online.

GuyL is correct, you can still purchase 2006 and newer from quicktax.ca, though I'm not sure how long 2006 will still be available for sale, usually QuickTax products are not available after 2 years. Any QuickTax Online data is purged after 2 years. QuickTax Online 2007 data will still be available for another month or two but any previous years were purged after 2 years.

Thank you GuyL and Brian. So, basically, I can still buy the CDs but I need the respective one for each tax year. I will have to start with 2006 and 2007. Now, is it true that if I owed money to Revenue Canada they would have already mailed me to require from me to file my taxes? I called them on the phone and I was told there was nothing urgent (not the exact terms).

I have never really heard of the Canada Revenue Agency actually calling people just to ask you why you didn't file your taxes. There are many legitimate reasons for not filing a return for any given year(s). Instead, they conduct various audits of entities like financial institutions, other govt agencies, employers, etc and if they find that you had some income which you did not report when they figure you should have, then they might contact you and ask you why it wasn't reported. That might include the need to file a return for those year(s) if none was filed. Of course, any money or back taxes owed to them will be subject to penalties and/or interest, so it is more "urgent" for you then for them to get it straightened out...

GuyL,
The CRA is now using the phone to contact delinquent taxpayers. In one progressive area (Gee... I am in the Gatineau/Ottawa area. Wonder what area I am talking about?!), they are even sending summons for non-filers to appear in court to answer for non-filed tax returns. This is an additional $650 tacked on to the tax bill. I've had about 5 clients that way.

Interesting. But does the CRA have some specific reason to think that these people have unreported income or is it strictly because they have not filed a return?
As usual, I like to learn from real life cases. Thanks!
Personally, I think that a return should always be filed, even if you have no income for a year. If nothing else, it preserves your elegibility for netfiling for the next year... ;)

Hi
I have just gotten qt incorp bus 2008 to use for business with fiscal ending 9/30/09.
The prev return was done manually by professional and filed but I'd like to input it and then import the info to do the new return.
Can I use this QT 2008 and input the items from 9/30/08 year end return, save the file, import it and start the year end 9/30/09 return? or do I need to use QT bus 2007 software (for fiscal end 9/30/08)?
I only need to file the one T2 return.
Thanks
