I am having an issue on certain PC's when I try and archive to pdf while printing. When the option to archive is selected on a couple of our PC's Profile will freeze up.

We have had this issue since last year, and have been told it is a conflict with CaseWare. I have removed CasWare from the equation and I still can not archive. I was on the phone with tech support for 4 hours yesterday and was finally told that it is a known issue and that they have no time frame for when it will be fixed.

All our PC's use Window's XP Pro. installed, and are networked to the same printers, all our PC's also use CaseWare and for the most part can archive to pdf.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has had this same issue or had an idea of what I could try to resolve this. Intuit's support is by far the worst I have expierenced ever.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Seeing as how it only does this on a couple of machines hard to say that it is the software, else they should all be affected. Most likely something in your environment. I print to pdf for all returns and advise my clients to do so as well.

Have you tried reinstalling the pdf print driver? There used to be a goofy way to remove it that used to fix it almost all the time. It was through DOS.

Goto a command prompt and go to the c:\program files\profile or wherever you installed profile to. At that prompt, type install.exe -u to uninstall. Then after it has uninstalled, type install.exe to reinstall.

What else might be different between the computers that work and the computers that don't? Memory? Processes running? Firewall?

Again, due to the fact it works on some and not other machines does not make me believe it is a known issue. That term seems to be thrown about a bit more than I am comfortable with knowing the effort that goes into making this software.

All the machines have the same specs, so I'm confident it's not hardware related. One thing i have noticed is that the machines that can archive all have a PDF converter called Amyuni Document Converterter. I ran a file called PDFinstall.bat, that seemed to be installing Amyuni drivers but it did not create an Amyuni Document Converter. I need to know how I can get this converter onto these machines, and then I'm sure my problem will be fixed.

Thanks again.

We are using a 3rd party program to pdf file, it doesn't work the same as the profile one, but you just print the return and select the pdf printer.

I have used knock off PDF creators in the past, to my sorrow, as I have subsequently run into corrupted PDF files created by the knockoff.

If you buy a Scansnap scanner, you get the real thing (Adobe Standard) thrown in...

So you would recommend one of these then Bert? I have a client who we discovered has a scanner that they decided not to make vista drivers for. What kind of cost are we looking at?

Thanks.

I don't remember who first told us about ScanSnap scanner from Fujitsu. It must have been about 3 years ago on this forum.

I agree with Bert, they are the slickest little devil you will ever find. Scans multiple pages, scans both sides in one pass - will do everything except books - not a flat bed scanner.

After reading a few folks raving on about how great they are, I bought one for the 2007 tax season. I wouldn't be without it now. I have zero client files for 3 years of taxes. Everything is scanned and archived. And a Bert pointed out it comes with a copy of Acrobat Standard. My memory (which is excellent for about 2 minutes) is telling me they are about $500

I'm also an avid fan. I've used mine for the last four years and have eliminated alot of paper from my office. It's great to be able to pull up prior years' investment transaction statements to easily find when clients purchased investments without sorting through piles of files. Too many advantages to mention.

The Scan Snap is one of the best pieces of hardware we have purchases in the last 4 years.

Quick, easy and a real crowd pleaser when you are meeting with a client and they produce that last slip they promised they weren't getting this year.

The cure to our problem was that Proflie was not creating the PDF creator it required. It would install drivers for Amunyi 2.51, but would not physically add it to your printers. Just create a new printer and select the Amunyi and the required drivers, they should be on the list of printers. If you are asked to update the drivers keep the existing ones. This should solve your problem.

A Dr. Tax salesman suggested that the Fujitsu Snap Scan was not sufficient for tax purposes as it is not twain compliant. And suggested I purchase the next model up. Anybody care to chime in on the basic Fujitsu Snap Scan and its relationship with preparing tax returns with Profile. Drowning in paper here.

We have two running here, and considering a 3rd. Been scanning documents for years, we have managed to scan the archive back to 2005 (my kids always need money!).

Mr salesman is trying to sell you something!!!

Tell him to stick to selling Dr. Tax (Oh, that explains it.....)

ScanSnap is the best scanner I have ever used....

We have 3 in the office, plus a portable.

Why in the world would you need twain compliance?

What Bert said.

The Dr Tax guy is simply wrong.

We have ScanSnaps on every desk and have integrated them fully into out paperless office system.

Twain compliant means absolutely nothing unless you are using CCH Scan which, I beleive, requires it.

These little suckers even work fully in our terminal services applications when we have our staff work at home through illness or overtime

Just my two cents.

I install this but it didn't solve my problem.
