Hi there,
Welcome to 2009. I have recently updated my skill set to include preparation of Final Returns. I was giving the clients away in previous years and now I need to understand how much to charge for this service.
Anyone care to give a range of fees? I dont want to undercharge, yet dont want to overcharge either.
thanks!

Sorry Carol, kinda like asking "how long is a piece of string"?
The answer is it all depends.
Generally speaking, in billing anything, think time spent, complexity of issue, and outcome.
Prefacing any billing discussion with this line, and explaining this thinking with examples, will answer most clients' concerns.

I would suggest that with a T1 final, usually follows up with a T3 Return for the death benefit. Time with clients, advice, Clearance certificate, dealing with CRA, etc.
I tell my clients that this complete packages starts at $ 400.00 and the skies the limit.
What ever time you actually spend working to complete the file, add 25 % time to take into account dealing with the exectutor and other duties.
That is my experience. Some are easy, some are hard. I do not charge under that, period, That is where my value for services Price starts.
and that is for long term good clients. Over the phone price shoppers get the starting $ 500.00
My highest fee ever for a husband wife was around 7,500. It was a lot of work.
