Hello,

I am using Profile 2007.7.1. I cannot open SOME of my T2 tax returns--the ones that were done pretty recently. When I attempt to open them, I get the following message: unrecognized file format.

I have just conducted the following experiment: I carried forward a corporation with the taxation year ending on July 31, 2007 to 2008. No problem here. I saved the file. Then I tried to open it... and I get the same message: unrecognized file format. I guess it has something to do with the recent updated and recently saved T2 tax returns.

I'd appreciate any assistance!!!

Thanks,

Jack

What information do you have on the file when you right click on it. Please give more information. I have completed a couple T2 with May and June y/e's no problem. Give some more information that others/me can try to recreate your situation.

I am having this same problem, getting "Unrecognized file format" error, I can't determine any difference in the properties, but cannot open the T2s. I also did the 'roll forward' experiment with the same results.

Some files I get the above error and other ones I get this message "Do you wish to load Company Name in the 2006-2008 module? Choose "Yes" if you have not yet filed this return with CRA." If I choose yes, it won't open (same unrecognized file format error noted above). If I choose No it opens.

This also may have something to do with it: when I right click on the T2 file and choose "Open With" there are two Profile Application icons under recommended programs. I can't determine why the two icons are there and it doesn't seem to matter which one I choose.

I have Profile v. 2007.7.1, operating system is Windows Vista.

I registered just to note that I have the same problem. Am also using Vista and version 2007.7.1. I think it may be a Vista problem as I have Profile (same version) running on Windows XP and I can't open some files in Vista while those exact files will open in XP.

Hi, I joined to let others know that I, too, am having the same problem. I am also running Vista and Version 7.1.1 and cannot open the newer files in the 2006-2008 Module. Has anyone received a solution?

I have a solution for you for this issue.

Close Profile.

Right click on the Profile icon > properties > find target. (for VISTA Open File Location)

In the window that opens, double click on the program Proreg.exe (this could be listed as Proreg) to start the Profile Module Registration Utility.

Make sure there is an "X" in the T22008.dll module. (left click to put the X there)

Every module but GPshell.dll should have an "X" in it. (if the GPshell.dll does have an X, then leave it selected)

X the corner to exit the program.

Restart Profile.

For VISTA users : Please note you will have to be an administrator to complete this task.

I tried your solution but everything was as you wished to have it set. Only difference I have noticed is that the file I am trying to open has a file extension of .GS2 not .GT2

Can anyone help...

Hi Coulsj,

That file you are trying to open is from a teaching version of ProFile. You need to use that very same version of ProFile to open that file.
