Not sure which forum to post this in. Choose this one.

Apparently CRA is behind in their processing of 2007 T4 Returns and their computer system is generating automatic requests for missing 2007 T4 Returns (even though they were long ago mailed to CRA).

These requests for missing 2007 T4 Returns are being mailed directly to clients.

Our office has seen 7 requests where we do about 200 sets of T4s. In all cases the T4 returns were mailed to the Ottawa Technology Centre in late Jan/early Feb.

Jennifer, we efile all our information returns, and as such we get quite a good turnaround.

May wish to consider that for next year...

But for small offices, Bert, this is cost prohibitive. Basic is not green; it does not e-file...

Another crappy service out of CRA, They don't post the T1013's correctly or at all, the same with RC59's. and I have had the same letters. I just send them back with a nasty note, suggesting that they should get their work done. Even when they are not posted, they still are noted as received by the mail with stamp and entry to the computer system and yes I have Premier, but I still paper file.

We're not a small office, but our T4s are usually small (one to 10 employees on average).

And we have given up on efiling officially. Of the 500 or so T1's we efiled, 50 were selected for post assessment review and a number of them are still in the objection stage for various reasons (CRA is wrong in every case). Of the 1,500 T1s we paper filed not a one was reviewed or looked at or reassessed.

We recommended to our clients that they paper file.

I guess; however, if I had 200 sets of T4's to do I would ensure I could internet file my slips to avoid the above case.

Glad to see that 10% was high. We thought it was excessive and why we dropped our efiling by more than half this year.

I efile about 400 T1 returns annually and somewhere between 8 and 12 of them get selected for review. It is a bit of a pain but not that bad....you pretty much know ahead of time which ones are good candidates for review. I have not run into any problems with CRA wanting to change any of the returns during post assessing review.

As for T4's....... I do about 80 sets and courier them all in a single bundle to K1A 1G9 on about the 20th of January each year. I have personally never run into any difficulties paper filing T-slips. I have thought about efiling the T4's but remember their was some issue a couple of years back with bad data being transmitted or something. Anyone remember what the exact issue was? Was it a Profile problem?

Yes, there was a problem with Profile a couple of years ago. The program picked up the unadjusted amounts in the upload and cause a few problems. After that, I check the first upload file of the year prior to sending it to ensure it has the numbers I want and then file away.

For the returns that I do for my CA, we've decided against efiling so that is about 800-900 returns paper filed. We've had a little surprise with the paper filed returns... they are processing in about 8 days - the same as electronic filing.

Whereas my private clients are principally filed electronically and I get about a 2% post-assessment review rate.
