To: Development Team,

The software currently prints the name of the taxpayer, the SIN munber and date & time on each page of each form / schedule in the T1 module. Is it possible that the SIN number be removed from that 'header'? The name of the taxpayer and date & time are fine.

Consistent with privacy and confidentiality issues the request is a preventive one to guard against identity theft and other invasions of privacy that can occur.

We attempt to shred all discarded T1's but, some do 'slip throught the cracks' and get thrown out in the regular garbage.

Looking forward to this modification in a future release. Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Gee, if you can't shred all the pages, anything can "slip through (throught) the cracks", then why bother shredding? Isn't that the point of having a privacy policy so that the cracks are closed?

In Vancouver, a couple of weeks ago, a dumpster diver in a downtown alley found complete pages of tax returns not even ripped!

I think the SIN number (or munber) should remain in small print on the top of the forms!

Tighten up your privacy policy to what it should be!

Oh, just a thought here, but shouldn't recyclable paper be recycled instead of being sent to the landfill (regular garbage)? After being shredded, of course.

S I N should remain. I use it. Yes I have dropped printouts before and so has my clerk. It is needed for identification. My office every piece of paper is shredded, even evelopes, sticky notes, everything.

I shred almost everything too, especially tax "stuff".

Does your shredder accept envelopes, sticky notes etc. without getting a buildup of glue on the cutters?

I give myself the trouble of tearing off envelope flaps, part of sticky notes etc. because my "Staples" shredder manual says to beware of glue.

Your advice would be valuable to me.

Thank you.

Ciao!

In all fairness, if you could add a toggle to keep or remove the SIN that would work here.

We use a third party shredding firm, once per year.

Everything goes to the shredder!!!

I have a Fellos 120 c-2 shredder. Can shred all day at 15 pages a time. The key is to oil the shredder cutters. I have my clerk shred twice a week,Before each time, the machine is oiled, I use Fellowes paper shredder oil., Envelopes, and all sticky stuff first and then everything else. I usally run some heavy card stock, once a month. wrecked data folders, 3 years and no problems.

I take them to the farm. set them up against some bales or a tree and shoot them with a 270 winchester, then to make sure they are completly destroyed, I take out my nickle 12 gauge shot gun, with double 0 buck shot. Then for good measure what ever is left, goes into the burn barrell. Computers harddrives and my favorite targets old .3.5 inch floppys. I call it data destruction with a bang.

We use Shred-it for our paper shredding, link - www.shredit.com - they come to our office every 2 months and shred all paper docs on site, cost is about $100 per visit, had a my own shredder at one time, given labour costs using a 3rd party company to handle this is better value in my opinion. For CD's and the occasional floppy brought in by clients use a Aleratec shredder.

I would have thought that all you Tax Guru's would be golfing, somewhere, by now, rather than musing about things shredding, but, save your dough and, next winter, try the following:

You can use Darik's Boot and Nuke on the UBCD (mainly free Linux tools)

http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Or just bend the actual disk... unreadable to anyone save the NSA.

Here in Edmonton shredded paper (aka excelsior) is NOT acceptable in the Blue bag municipal recycling program.

You can take your shredded paper to the roofing plant on Baseline Road, BP Products, I believe, is the name...

If you have enough paper, they will even pay you for the stuff...

Old Hard Drives are perfect for sighting in your rifle for hunting season. After taking a couple hits from the 270 win, they are pretty well destroy. Nothing left to do but gather up the bits and Burn it.

That is what I do with old hard Drives.

Have a commercial shredder in the office for most paper, every couple years load up the truck and take a load to Shred-it. commercial shredders. They will dump and shred it in front of you.
