This is a longish post so I apologize in advance.
I do work for a mid size C.A. firm and we use Linux as our file server, which hosts all of the files from Simply accounting client files, QuickBooks files, Word and Excel and our auditing software files.
Since the new version has come out, we are unable to get access to those file on the server due to the fact that we have to have Simply or the Connection Manager installed on the computer/server we are storing the data files. You cannot install either of these programs on Linux, due to the architecture of the system.
I have talked to a few people in tech support and unfortunately I can't seem to get past the typical answer of "we don't support Linux".
Now I am not here to complain or bash Sage (I will save that for my blog...;)), I am looking for a solution, is there anyone here who is in the same boat as I am that can help me with this issue.
Thanks

I am told Simply 2008 won't hook up to Caseware either. Anyone tried?

I don't have an answer for you, but it appears both Simply and QB are having issues with their new versions, apparently because they use a new database.

If you have visited the QB forum that's part of this site, you'll find plenty of disenchantment with both.

So keep coming back or posting elsewhere. I have to think others are in the same boat

I have always just imported the trial balance using a text file. You can export the trial balances from simply or qb to excel, save it as a tab delimited text file, then import into caseware.
I found importing directly from the file caused issues wit the file later and changed my approach to importing.

I can provide more detailed instructions if needed.

I too am not impressed with Simply 2008..however, the answer lies in that the Simply Accounting Connection Manager program needs to be installed where the data files are. Therefore you need to install that on the Linux server...somehow.

I was using a network attached storage drive. You can't really install to those, so I am hosed.

Bert,

How much do you pay to maintain the security and integrety of the system with the exchange boxes?
