Certainly irrelevelant for me - I have had hyperlinked scanned pdfs for over 6 years now... as could anybody if they chose...
No way would I pay for such stuff..
Tax preparation s/w should stick to Tax Preparation and leave such "office management" functions to separate (and separately priced) add-ons...

Which software are you using for this purpose (hyperlinked scanned pdfs)?

I was wondering that myself, do you have the PDF files hyperlinked within Profile? I have to admit that I have not looked at trying to link the PDF file to the respective client file. I just assumed it was not possible.

The decision was made to perfect the solution first and then deliver a 100% functional product that customers will use and have value added to their workflow. Releasing a substandard document management product could cause many clients to shun any further use in the future based on a bad initial experience with a 98% functional solution.
P.S. Just to address the document linking issue, there is a current solution in ProFile that will allow .bmp files to be inserted into a return using the ATTACH and NOTES forms. Scan the T4 [or any other slip/paper] to a .bmp file and insert the graphic into either the attach or notes form and you have an electronic copy with the return.

From what I've seen. This is how the CCH product (CCH Scan) works. This is a separate software which can be interfaced with TaxPrep.
After the tax slips are scanned, the software will bookmark the scan images. When you are in the TaxPrep program simply click the "link" icon, the software will bring up the appropriate tax slip images for the respective data input screen. All you have to do is key in the line number and value, the amount will be populated on the appropriate line of the data entry screen.
Imagine you are using dual displays, you have one monitor displaying the data entry screen, while the othe monitor displays the scanned image.
By the way, DT Max will release a less powerful scanning software ($300 add-on) to interface with their tax program. It will display an attachment icon on the tax software's data entry screen. When you double click this icon, the appropriate scanned images will pop up.
Don't be so narrow minded. Your competitors are developing scanning program to interface with their tax preparation programs, unless you want to be left behind.

Yes, I remember last year, the large price increase was to have additional quality assurance before the software was released!

It's unfortunate Intuit is delaying the document management solution. It appears both Lacerte and Proseries in the US have a DMS product.
Paperless is inevitable, and if they want to keep market share, it has to be available sooner than later.
The cutting edge seems to be getting a little dull.

Year right, like it works!
Dream on.
It has been easy to organize a paperless office on ones own for years.
Profile is Tax software - let it remain tax software.

Saw the CCH solution myself and 1) it does not yet link all slips, 2), is scanner dependent so that if it fouls up..., and 3) you still have to enter the data on its own....and 4) you have to link it to the right file...
Kinda like creating a technological solution that does not do a better job than the manual equivalent. Why scan in when you can have the slips in front of you, can handle them as needed to read and enter, then stack them as needed?
Now in the future, when they marry it with OCR, and the act of scanniong also populates the fields ERROR FREE, then perhaps this becomes a time saving feature.
Now is it universally bad...nope, I have to think it is useful in given circumstances...just not for me, at least from what I have seen to date...
