As everyone here knows, or should now, I am usually most ready on this forum to answer questions on which I believe I have something to contribute.

And for the reason of this forum, I will absolutely not answer questions posed to me by private message, especially not from people I do not know.

So save your breath.

Yuk Yuk,

I ask for their mailing address so I can send the bill. Actually heard back from one, so I just gave my honest opinion, what the hay.

But no more either please.

So if you want a correct answer, ask Joe.

He told me he answers questions usually often sometimes occasionally for free...

And you all know the value of free advice...

Hey guys, I think that this portion of the thread should be in the private area.

Set up an auto reply with instructions on how to provide an online payment to their account for the services to be rendered.

I know I haven't asked a question yet, but since you do not want the PM's anymore, could I get your email address. Thanks

Not sure you even want him as a paying client Bert......unless of course you go to the GL school of billing on him....most urget last minute requests tend to be more headaches than they're worth....

It is a corporation (I would guess with a December year end; therefore, I would use July 2 rather than May 1

James, sorry to say, you are not thinking straight. I said ON May 1, I mean ON May 1. Not April 30, Not May 2. Think James! What do sensible accountants do on May 1?

So that begs the question Bert, what WILL you be doing May 1 ?? You do need a holiday since I noticed you are already in. It is almost 8 here, the server shows 7, and you posting at 6.....plus you're 2 hours behind according to SSF.....get ANY sleep last night??

Get your point; however, I do not get to relax until July 1.

All this is the result of the cheap software available around the net.

We have had 6 - 7 phone calls the last few days, from

a taxi driver wanting to know how to use the "Quick Method" for HST (The quickest method sir is to drop everything down so we can complete your taxes and HST)

I am selling my business, how do I allocate good will (Drop everything into our office and we will do your taxes in accordance with the legislation)

How do I, and how much can I transfer the Education deduction from my daughter. (drop down to ....)

Some of these people are really persistent, you tell them that and they are upset that I will not provide this free advise.

I now tell them that I support all questions from my paying clients, they should call the 1-888 number provided with the software. One had the gonads to say she had called and got a busy signal so she called me. Well pay me and I'll do it. Pay TaxWiz and have the Wiz do it.

But, here is the back breaker. The absolute back breaker. Yesterday while I was out on a course, a guy comes into our office. He had been reassessed by CRA and charged with gross negligence, about $6,000.00 in penalties, and the letter states they are considering fraud charges. He bought a copy of Quickbooks in 2004 (no updates etc. since) and the T2 software (a one shot licence that is not part of Profile?) from Intuit. Did it himself, never called here, BUT because I am a pro advisor, I am at fault!!! The software is wrong. The software messed it up. He really hassled my staff. I called him last night around 11:30, laid it on the line to the idiot, and I now sit here at 7:30 awaiting his return visit. $2,000 retainer before I even look sideways at him. Other than that the CRA tax police are going to take his house, his wife, his car and he is going to end up meeting Bubba in some jail.

I'm with you on this Bert, I started out offering freebees myself figuring some self respecting potential client would see themselves coming in here and having me do the taxes in future years for the pittyfully low fee that I charge. Nope they call with more questions. This is all getting way too ridiculous.

I have instructed my staff that when these type calls come in our pat answer is: Are you a current client? If not, do you want to become a client? If yes, come on down, if not call Hit and Run. Hang up.
