Sure, I can Email and attach it.

I just need your Email address, please.

Yesterday I had real serious problems.

Whenever I would attempt to connect to CRA through my Browser, I would get porn.

Obviously, I was unable to connect to Efile, also.

Mr. Jarrett worked on my case until late last night, from his home.

I no longer have the porn problem.

Mr. Jarrett has written a new chapter in my book about going above and beyond the call........!

My sincere thanks to you, Sir!

I still cannot connect with CRA to Efile, but I know that the system is on wobbly legs and "Down" at the moment, from talking with the efile Help Desk.

ProFile seems to work up to the point that I select a file for Efile. I then get a screen called "Efiling; ************(Client)"
On the header of this screen, going from left to right, there are two horizontal arrows, greyed out, followed by a small red icon with a white cross in it, followed by two other icons, rotation, and printer.

The screen does not show, as usual, the connection dialogue. It remains blank for a short while, then advises, Website Unavailable.

At this point one of the arrows, the left one becomes available, but the red circle with the white cross is now greyed out.

I do not know the significance of this red dot. It looks like a Norton symbol.

I do not ever remember seeing this red icon in previous years, but I am not sure.

Is it only me?

Please check your screen as a favor to me, especially if you use Norton, to see if you have the same thing.

Somehow, I suspect this could be a clue to my problem of not being able to Efile.

My Profile screen says to me that the Web (CRA) is not available, but CRA (Help Desk) advise me that there has been no attempts from my computer to connect.

I'm grasping at straws, I know, but I have a backlog of frowning customers.

Thank you for your concern.

I just had a session with ProFile support.

They feel they cannot assist me to find my problem until CRA is up and running.

Meanwhile, I asked about the little red icon with the white cross which shows up in my header when I try to transmit an Efile.

The icon must be trying to tell me that I cannot transmit. But, from where, how and why????

Profile support do not seem to know what I am talking about.

I don't know if it is only me that has that icon, or does it always appear when you all try to transmit an Efile.

I noticed that snowplowguy has the very same red icon with a white cross in his postings. In the left margin of his posts where someone would usually show a picture.

It would be much appreciated if someone would try to Efile, even though CRA is down, just so you could let me know if you show the red icon in your header bar. I wish to know if my ProFile installation is normal or not. I apologize for bothering you with this.

Thank you.

Hey Nick,

I can get into the site, it says it isn't operational at this time. So your problem is computer specific.

Thank you for sending me the picture (pdf).

I see that you do have the icon in the header bar, under the client name, just after the two arrows.

I have that icon, but it is red and bright. It must be trying to tell me something.

I do not get a connection such as you have that indicates that you can connect with CRA and are "Ready to file".

The first person at ProFile support that I spoke to indicated to me that my problem was because all my attempted Efile transmissions were "Locked" under "properties". I indicated that I had reservations about this, but no, he was most certain.

The second person I spoke to just a few minutes ago, had me go to Control Panel/Firewall/ and make certain that ProFile is an "Exception" under "Programs". But, my "Windows" firewall is turned off, I am using "Norton" firewall and I have made certain ProFile has access.

So much for the comments made much earlier in this thread about the quality of service for "Basic" subscribers versus "Premier"

With the information I now have, which you sent me, I will Telephone ProFile support again.

Thank you. You have been most helpful to me.

Nick,

Ask for the guys I mentioned in my email and see if they can remote in. I think they could solve it that way.

j/k.... I think I'll try my luck at a couple of T2's tomorrow.

Finally......

I called ProFile support again, and, lucky me, Randy answered.

He is one smart Cookie, let me tell you.

We did a remote to my computer.

The problem I have was duplicated for Randy.

As it stands, I seem to still have some malware which is interferring with the connection of ProFile to CRA.

We were not able to find nor identify it.

All my other site connections are fine. The problem is strictly with CRA.

I will now try to go back to a previous restore point, then try to connect with CRA again.

At the very worse case scenerio, I should only have to restore back to February 16th, 2007, because on that date I did make a good connection to CRA.

Thank you all for your concern, I will keep you posted.

For now, I'm still out of commission, but at least, I have a workable strategy.

Well...... everyone else is out of commission too.... so you have some time to get your computer issues ironed out. The efile system being down is a good explanation...... your clients will probably be able to confirm by watching their local news.

If you read my posts yesterday don't be afraid of the System Restore feature in XP....... it can be your friend.

One day we might talk about ditching your Norton bloatware for something that actually protects your system from insects.......

Good luck Nick!

YIPPEE!!!!!

I know it's not polite to yell and shout.....I'm sorry.

I can now connect to CRA.

No, I can't Efile right now, but at least I can reach the Efile portal, just like you.

You have all been so very helpful and understanding of my problem, that I have warm fuzzy feelings all over.

Thank you all so very much!!!!

I did a system restore, as suggested, back to February 21, updated ProFile (again) to the latest version, and I am now out of the woods and in the clear.

Obviously, since I also have also set a restore point for today, as a precautionary measure, the malware must still be lurking in my computer, somewhere, since I am able to re-restore back to today.

I want to celebrate Friday night by raising a Stella Artois for each and every one of you....but since I will obviously be very "Loopy" afterwards, are there any further precautions I should take?

Thank you again!

Yes...... get rid of Norton Antivirus as soon as convenient.

I haven't heard much about mcaffee in a while..... so I can't really comment Bert.

I use nod32 by eset and have found it to be the best antivirus software that I have ever tried. It is a 37meg application and uses hardly any computer resources whatsoever. It automatically updates virus definitions once every hour on my machines although you can tailor it to update at whatever interval you specify.

AVG antivirus was another piece of software that I found impressive.

I just don't like bloatware applications that hog system resources and try to take over your computer. Norton was great in the old days when Peter was running the show...... but it has become clumsy. Zonealarm has gone down hill over the past couple of years too.
