When you "personalize" the letter, it freezes the data on the client letter at that point in time. There should be some audit trail, or error/warning message generated when changes are made anywhere in the T1 to alert you that you might have to change your "personalized" letter.
We try not to personalize the letters anymore .. strictly for this reason, but we had taxpayers reaching age 69 and had to modify each letter regarding RRSP and felt compelled to include extra information on each spouse's letter.
