I have a client who is a commissioned employee. He moved last year and has business use of home expenses for two different locations and varying pro rata criteria. When this happens with business income, I create a second form, zero out the business use of home on the second form and add the two business use of home amounts on the first business statement. I do not have this option with the T777 and would appreciate a second form.

While I know I can calculate these amounts outside of the program, I prefer a record within the program.

I am open to hearing how others deal with this type of situation.

There is no need to create a second T777. The correct method is to add up the total square footages of the two residences and the total footage used in both residences and do only one T777.

Hope the above helps.

You have got to be kidding me. Could you please provide some reference from CRA that outlines this procedure, I can't seem to find it.

Using this method with example data... increased the allowable deduction by over $500.00. I can't believe that CRA approves a method that doesn't take into consideration the timing of the move or a significant change in office size.

For now I'm sticking with the pencil and paper.

Better way and it has passed review for handling of day care and T777

Square footage calculation is:

(Space in first place x timeframe being used) + (space in second place x timeframe being used)

Modify above to reflect if footage being used or total footage. In day care situations, you must also account for hours in day.
